Middle qualification

A lot of big surprises after the qualification races of the middle distance. Damien Renard, Matthias Merz, Olav Lundanes, Edgars Bertuks, Ingunn Hultgreen Weltzien, Ines Brodmann - they all have missed the final. The courses today were very technical as almost all runners made some mistakes. The mistakes was probably one of the reasons why nobody could run the course in 25 minutes as it was predicted before. Some of the top runners also were heading into the finish quite slowly, so probably keeping their top sped for tomorrow's final.

Valentin Novikov from Russia made more than one and a half minute mistake, but still managed to win his qualification heat by one second. Also Thierry Gueorgiou (FRA) is back on his place, finishing number one in his heat. But also he managed to make some smaller mistakes as he admitted after his race.
