Long final
Three of the sprint medallists won the medals also in the long distance final today, which was held in Irbene, some 50 km from Ventspils. Emil Wingstedt (SWE) changed his sprint gold to bronze medal in long, Daniel Hubmann (SUI) got his second silver and Anne Margarethe Hausken (NOR) is the first to get two gold medals in these championships.
The course-setters had made good work to prepare nice courses for the long distance finals. The terrain was very unuusal and it was changing all the time through the course. Runners had the possibility to run in the very fast, but also hilly places, there were place where they had to cross the big sand field that looked almost like Sahara, there were a lot of marshes full of water and at there were even parts with very green areas.
In men's class, Dmitriy Tsvetkov from Russia is the new European champion in the long distance. He was the first in the long in the Junior World orienteering championships five years ago in Estonia, so it seems that the Baltic terrain fits for him very well. The Swiss runners had really good race as three of them were among the six best, therefore we could await really good relay team from them on Sunday. Today it was also big battle for the silver medal, and Daniel Hubmann (SUI) won it just by one second beating Emil WIngstedt (SWE)

As already said, Anne Margarethe Hausken won her second European champion title, so proving that she is in really good shape, so we could probably wait for some more medals from her till the end of the championships. It was also good day for Sweden and Russia in women's class as there were two runners from each of these nations in the TOP 6.
