Relay

It was very exciting last competition day in these European championships here in Ventspils. Extremely fast and also tricky courses made it very interesting, as even after the spectator's control there were big changes in the placings of the teams.

Middle final

A great day for Finland! The Finnish girls took all the three medals in women's class and Pasi Ikonen was the 3rd in men's class in the middle distance final today in Jaunupe.

Middle qualification

A lot of big surprises after the qualification races of the middle distance. Damien Renard, Matthias Merz, Olav Lundanes, Edgars Bertuks, Ingunn Hultgreen Weltzien, Ines Brodmann - they all have missed the final.

Long final

Three of the sprint medallists won the medals also in the long distance final today, which was held in Irbene, some 50 km from Ventspils. Emil Wingstedt (SWE) changed his sprint gold to bronze medal in long, Daniel Hubmann (SUI) got his second silver and Anne Margarethe Hausken (NOR) is the first to get two gold medals in these championships.

Long qualification

Today was the long distance qualification near the Liepene camping, aproximately 20km from Ventspils. It was 10,9km race for men and 6,5km long course for women classes. The best 17 for every heat qualified for the tomorrow's race in Irbene.

Sprint qualification

Women class was dominated by the Scandinavian runners - there were four Swedish runners, three Finnish runners and one from Denmark and Norway in the TOP 3 in all qualification runs.

The first day of EOC 2008

Today was the first day of the European championships 2008. After the arrival most of the teams used the opportunity to take part in the model events for the sprint distance in the centre of Ventspils, as well as for middle and long distances outside the city. In the evening the offical opening ceremony was held.

All orienteering fans are kindly invited to EOC Tour in Ventspils, Latvia. You have an opportunity to participate at a 2- day event to be held exactly on the same terrains and maps as the EOC races. The first starts are scheduled in a way to give the orienteering friends a chance to feel the atmosphere of one of the world's top orienteering events and to cheer your national team.

Ventspils to host well over 300 EOC and ETOC 2008 participants

Preliminary entries received by the EOC and ETOC organisers have been summarised. In May 2008, Ventspils will host close to 200 runners and 50 officials from altogether 17 countries for EOC, and about 70 runners and 10 team officials, representing 9 countries, for ETOC.

Organisers Visit EOC 2008 Arena Sites in Ventspils

On 20 and 21 November, 2007, EOC Organising Committee met in Ventspils to visit the actual event sites and finalize the layout of arenas, the location of start and finish areas all despite the weather conditions that were not exactly field-visit-friendly.

IOF makes adjustments to World Cup 2008

At its recent meeting in Helsinki, the IOF Council decided to implement a number of adjustments to the foot orienteering World Cup 2008. One of the news is that all three individual finals in the European Orienteering Championships in Ventspils, Latvia will be included in the World Cup.
